Miguel Mendez

Executive Director

“I created We Strive because I know firsthand how the outdoors can save a life. Growing up, I felt lost until I discovered climbing, kayaking, and ice climbing. These adventures taught me resilience, leadership, and self-love. Today, We Strive is my way of giving back, of offering kids a chance to heal, grow, and believe in themselves. Each step on a mountain, each paddle on a river, is a chance to build a better future, together.”

Michael (Mikey) O’Sullivan is proudly from the Southside of Chicago. Michael strongly believes in the profound impacts of education, its ability to be a medium for personal growth and development, and that nature and the outdoors are a prime environment in which to explore and learn. Michael believes that the outdoor adventure therapy work done by We Strive for Change is transformative for its youth participants and provides unique educational opportunities outdoors through which they can achieve personal development. When Michael is not with We Strive for Change, he is outdoors, enjoying ice climbing, fishing, and playing football (soccer) with friends.

Hello! My name is Connor Young. I am passionate about giving back to the community through volunteer service and meaningful outreach. As a professional ski guide, I spend much of my time in the mountains, where I enjoy sharing my love for the outdoors and helping others experience nature safely and confidently. Staying active and connected to the outdoors has taught me the value of leadership, teamwork, and perseverance.

Norma Ceballos

Woman's Program Director

We Strive for Change is important to me because the organization is providing an outlet for inner city teens to try and steer them towards positive things. These activities are healing for teens that been through severe trauma. I know they enjoy these activities. I personally enjoy kayaking and horseback riding.
